The right time to investigate seismic pallet rack requirements is before you purchase the rack. Let us help you do it the right way!

Seismic racks are not just for the state of California. Cities all across the country are now requiring shelving and storage rack systems meet seismic requirements. Some customers choose to roll the dice and not purchase seismic rack while located in a seismic zone. When they get caught by the local building officials the rack (and the blame) is passed around like a hot potato.

We know that seismic pallet rack requirements are not fun to talk about. But be please be warned, if your located in a seismic zone and you get caught not pulling a permit the local building officials in your municipality could put a big yellow tape around your rack and not allow you to install it. In order to get a permit you’ll be required to get stamped and approved drawings from a Professional Engineer and in some cases retrofit 5″ x 7″ enlarged foot plates on the uprights.

For an extra fee (Approx. $950.00-$1500.00) we are also able to provide P.E. stamped and approved drawings for the pallet rack we provide. You’ll need these P.E. stamped drawings to pull a permit with the local building officials. You’ll have the confidence in knowing that the rack you purchase from us will meet the seismic codes where you are installing it.

I understand a buyer wanting to buy the cheapest, tallest rack possible but if I was an employee working in that rack and an earthquake hit I would hope and pray that it was designed to meet the seismic codes. Seismic pallet rack requirements help prevent rack from collapsing in an earthquake.

1. What is the City, State & Zip code where the pallet rack is being installed?
2. What’s the number of beam levels/ or shelf levels in your rack and where are they spaced in relation to the floor? (In other words tell us how many beam levels & how many inches the beam levels are spaced apart from each other).
3. What amount of weight are you storing on each beam level/shelf level?
