Steel Coil Racks
Steel coil storage racks represent heavy-duty, structural steel systems engineered specifically to handle the extreme concentrated loads, variable shapes, and severe safety demands of steel coil inventory management. Designed for steel mills, service centers, stamping facilities, and OEM press rooms, these specialized rack systems replace inefficient floor-stacking practices that consume premium floor space and risk costly coil surface damage. Available in stationary I-beam setups, mid-capacity structural C-channel frames, light-duty roll-formed configurations, and portable stackable pallets, coil rack architecture allows facilities to store master and slit coils 3 to 4 levels high. By utilizing form-fit cradles and reinforced steel decks, these selective systems deliver high cubic density, 100% item accessibility, and maximum structural integrity under point-load stresses ranging from 10,000 to over 80,000 lbs per shelf.
Heavy-Duty Structural I-Beam Master Coil Racks Engineered for massive mother coils weighing 20,000 to 60,000+ lbs (and custom-designed for extreme loads up to 80,000 lbs), heavy-duty structural I-beam coil racks represent the most robust storage configuration in the material handling industry. Constructed with heavy structural I-beams featuring up to 50 KSI yield strength, these systems utilize high-strength bolted connections to resist frame deflection and impact shock. Coils are positioned in an “eye-to-the-aisle” orientation resting on form-fit steel cradles, allowing overhead cranes or heavy-capacity forklifts to store materials 3 to 4 levels high. By shifting master coils from floor staging into vertical I-beam racking, facilities reclaim valuable square footage, reduce handling labor, and prevent coil edge deformation.
Heavy-Duty Structural Steel Coil Racks (Up to 10,000 LBS Capacity) Positioned between light-duty roll-formed teardrop systems and extreme-capacity I-beam frameworks, heavy-duty structural steel coil racks deliver an optimal balance of strength, impact resistance, and cost efficiency for coils weighing up to 10,000 lbs. Utilizing structural C-channel posts and heavy load beams, these systems are typically configured to store one coil wide per shelf across 3 to 4 vertical levels. Featuring selective “eye-to-the-aisle” cradle placement, every stored coil remains instantly accessible to material handlers, making this system an ideal upgrade for metal stamping plants and processing shops seeking to eliminate floor clutter without investing in heavy bridge-beam infrastructure.

Steel Coil Storage Racks
Our teardrop coil cradle system is ideal for two primary applications: if you have light to medium-weight coils (ranging from 1,000 to 6,000 pounds) or if you’re located on the West Coast. Our roll-form teardrop coil cradle racks are manufactured in San Diego, California, which offers significant freight savings for West Coast customers. However, it’s important to note that teardrop roll-formed pallet racks are generally less robust than structural pallet racks, so we recommend them for lighter-weight products.
For coils weighing between 9,000 and 10,000 pounds, we recommend our heavy-duty structural steel coil rack system. On the other hand, if the coil weight is lighter, our teardrop-style coil storage cradles provide substantial savings. The racks are specifically designed to accommodate the size and weight of your coils. To get started, please provide us with the diameter (measured on the side with the eye), width (or depth), and weight of your coils. Based on the weight, we’ll design the roll-formed cradle to accommodate one or two coils per shelf, as illustrated in the featured pictures.
Our cradles are perfect for organizing your coils, protecting them from damage when stacked on the floor, and freeing up valuable floor space. Eliminate the clutter on the floor with this vertical storage solution. We can customize the cradle to fit the diameter of your coils. These cradles simply drop over the beams and remain securely attached to the beams supporting the coils in storage. Adjustable beam levels offer flexibility in storing coils of various sizes.
Our teardrop coil storage cradle system can be tailored to different sizes, weights, and materials. Through our experience, we’ve discovered that these racks can accommodate coils made of steel, wire, plastic film, and many other materials.
