Solid Steel Decking
Solid steel decking for pallet racks offers a durable storage solution with a continuous and unperforated top, providing a sturdy industrial platform for palletized goods. Its tough construction provides support for heavy loads and maintains a smooth surface for secure storage, improving durability and resistance to wear and tear. Solid steel decking also offers greater protection for items with smaller bases, which may not be appropriate for open grate designs.
However, one notable drawback of solid steel decking is its potential non-compliance with fire codes requiring a 50% open design to maximize the effectiveness of overhead sprinkler systems during a fire. As a result, these pallet platforms may not be suitable for environments with stringent fire safety regulations. Despite this limitation, solid steel decking remains a good choice for applications prioritizing structural integrity and the ability to support a wide range of goods.
Solid Steel Pallet Rack Decking is a heavy-duty shelf surface designed for boxes, bins, small parts, containers with feet, and other loads that need more support than standard wire decking can provide. Made from heavy-gauge steel, it creates a smooth, flat storage surface that makes products easier to load, slide, and remove. The decking drops into the standard 1-5/8″ step of pallet rack beams, providing a simple way to turn pallet rack into a steel shelving system.

Metal Shelf Panels | Solid Steel Plank Decking for Pallet Racks
Unlike corrugated decking with raised ribs and valleys, solid steel decking provides a continuous surface. Steel channel supports underneath add strength and rigidity, while the steel construction eliminates the splintering and deterioration associated with plywood or particle board. It’s also easy to clean and built for daily warehouse use.
Heaviest Duty Steel Plate Pallet Rack Decking for Point Loads
Steel plate pallet rack decking is designed for extreme point and line loads, including palletized slit coils and other concentrated loads. Our heaviest-duty version provides capacities up to 7,000 lbs. per 11.75″ wide deck, depending on the application.
The decking is made from 1/8″ steel plate with angle supports underneath. A double-flanged design allows it to work with roll-formed step beams or structural C-channel beams. Individual plates can be positioned directly beneath pallet runners or point loads or installed across the beam level for full coverage.
Heavy Duty Wire Decking with Steel Top Plates Support Wire Baskets
Standard wire decking isn’t always the right choice for loaded wire baskets and steel containers. Container feet concentrate the load onto small areas of the mesh, which can bend or damage the deck and potentially cause failure.
Heavy-duty wire decking with steel top plates solves this problem by combining heavier wire mesh, additional channel supports, and steel strips positioned underneath the container feet. Because these decks are custom manufactured, the supports and plates can be positioned for the specific container.
This design allows you to store both pallets and wire containers on the same rack while maintaining the open construction of wire decking. For heavier applications, bar grate decking may also be considered.
Metal Shelf Panels | Solid Steel Plank Decking for Pallet Racks
Solid steel shelf panels provide a smooth surface for boxes, cartons, bins, small parts, and containers with legs. Panels are available in 6″ and 12″ widths and install side by side to create a continuous shelf.
Heavy-gauge steel construction and boxed corners provide strength while allowing the panels to drop directly into standard 1-5/8″ step beams. They’re a long-lasting alternative to plywood or particle board and won’t splinter or fall apart with repeated use.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I use solid steel decking instead of wire decking?
Use solid steel decking when you need a smooth shelf surface for small items, boxes, bins, containers with feet, or loads that aren’t properly supported by standard wire mesh.
What decking should I use for heavy point loads?
Steel plate decking, bar grate decking, or reinforced wire decking with steel top plates may be required. The correct choice depends on the total weight, contact points, container or pallet footprint, and rack configuration.
Can solid steel decking replace wood decking?
Yes. Solid steel decking provides a smooth shelf without the splintering, deterioration, and frequent replacement associated with plywood and particle board.
Can I store wire containers on pallet rack decking?
Yes, but the container feet need to be properly supported. For heavy wire or steel containers, consider reinforced wire decking with steel top plates, solid steel decking, or bar grate decking designed for the specific point loads.
