Concrete lag bolts secure pallet rack uprights to the concrete floor!
½” x 4-1/2” Wedge Anchor Bolts are designed to secure the feet of pallet rack upright frames to the concrete floor. Simply pre-drill a hole and insert 1/2″ x 4-1/2″ steel wedge anchor bolts through holes on the footplate of the upright into the concrete floor.
The pallet rack has two components: Upright Frames and Beams. A pallet rack upright frame is composed of two columns joined together with horizontal and diagonal bracing. Uprights have standard or enlarged footplates welded to the bottom of the legs. The footplates have two or four pre-drilled holes. You can put 1 or 2 shelving anchors into each footplate to secure the anchors to the concrete. Some people will stagger their anchoring.
How many concrete lag bolts are required to secure an upright to the concrete floor? That is a question you should ask your local building officials and inspectors. It can vary due to where you are located or a variety of other factors. Seismic requirements often call for special anchoring. Check with your local building officials for their requirements before purchasing or installing pallet racks.
Floor anchor bolts provide extra rack security. Uprights bear a lot of weight, so it’s important to provide extra enforcement. Having unstable uprights can lead to devastating rack failure. Using concrete lag bolts to anchor them to the floor helps to prevent bowing or bending.
Anchoring your pallet racks to the floor with wedge bolts is also a good idea in the event of being bumped by a forklift. Concrete lag bolts help to keep your racks from falling into each other.
