Clip Shelving is heavy duty industrial steel shelving that’s shelves are secured by compression clips. It’s commonly found in warehouses and distribution centers. It has a heavier capacity and is more durable than other shelving systems but it is also more expensive. You should start by asking yourself a couple of questions, do you need heavier capacity or the ability to close off the back or sides? If you do then metal or steel clip shelving is the answer, if not, consider less expensive boltless shelving with particle board decking.

We offer two styles of steel racking systems: Pacific Shelving which ships from our factory in California, popular on the West Coast and has a standard triple flanged shelf edge and Deluxe Steel Shelving offered from our factories in Texas and Kentucky and is known for having a unique boxed shape shelf edge. By boxing the edge of the shelf it offers greater capacity and support.

Before the design of our “boxed steel shelf” shelving was only offered with a triple flanged edge. The triple flanged shelf requires a heavier more costly 18-gauge steel shelf to achieve sufficient shelf capacity. BUT with the “Boxed Shelf” changed everything. We are able to achieve the same capacity with a less expensive 22-gauge steel boxed shelf. In fact, 90% of the shelving we sell is Deluxe boxed shelving.

Warehouse Rack & Shelf offers the original box steel shelving. Boxing the bottom edges of the shelf gives it more strength which is necessary when someone in the warehouse decides to step on the shelf to reach for a box on the top shelf. Our Deluxe box shelves will better resist damage and last many years longer than the triple flanged shelving unit.

We stock the largest variety of shelf sizes in the industry. Having a variety of shelf sizes that can ship quickly is important. Common shelf widths are 36″, 42″ and 48″. We even stock a 60″ wide steel shelving unit. Commonly stocked shelf depths include 12″, 15″, 24″, 30″ and 36″. Common post heights for steel racking systems include 60″, 72″, 84″ and 96″ tall.

With steel clip shelving you have the option of closing it off. We provide back panels and side panels that protect products on the shelves and help prevent them from getting covered in dust and dirt. Steel shelving with closed back and sides prevent product from falling off the back of the shelves. We can provide metal shelving with welded side panels to speed up install and reduce labor cost – which is a real benefit on union jobs.

For a long time clip shelving was losing market share to pallet rack. But E-commerce has brought clip shelving back from the dead! E-commerce retailers with their big distribution centers and reliance on picking, packing and shipping have literally saved the steel shelving industry. They have discovered that big pallet racks are too wide and open with too much air space. Bin shelving increases storage density and the shelving to cart method increases throughput of your product to the back door.

Steel industrial shelving is popular in a variety of different industries. You will find it in the warehouses of cosmetic, office supply, big box retailers. Automotive manufacturers and retailers use industrial clip shelving often in conjunction with bins to store small heavy parts. It is just so versatile.
