IMPORTANT NOTES: Adding additional supports under your wire decking will increase rigidity and capacity of your wire decking. Please check with an Engineer if you need capacity ratings or if you need to determine if capacity is sufficient to support your loads. We can’t tell you how much capacity these supports will add. Please note that this solution is ONLY for storage palletized product with evenly distributed uniform loads and NOT point loads. If you are point loading or storing lots of weight in the middle of the deck we do not recommend this option, instead talk to us about our specially Engineered heavy duty bar grate decking solutions. Please be aware that we ALWAYS insist that customers store their palletized loads on BOTH the front and back orange beams of the rack system for proper support.
Here’s a secret or a solution to a problem that exists. It is a viable solution to increase capacity of existing wire decks. If you are looking for an easy and inexpensive way to increase the capacity of your wire decking, use top hat channel supports underneath your pallets to add extra capacity. Here’s how you do it: purchase standard wire decking from us or use your existing wire decking and purchase top hat pallet supports from us to put underneath the wire decking. Space the top hat channel supports strategically underneath the mesh at key load points.
It is important to remember to tek screw the top hat shaped pallet supports into the beam for added strength and to prevent them from falling out. The top hat supports have pre-drilled holes in them that allow you to run a sheet metal screw through the corner of the support into the step of your pallet rack beam. This will hold them in place and also prevent the beams from bowing and pallet supports from falling out onto the floor.
So this product page is actually promoting two separate products that can be used together to create a stronger product. The two products are wire mesh decking and hat style pallet supports. Hat style pallet supports are called hat style because they have a profile that resembles a top hat.
The hat shaped channel supports set down into a pallet rack step beam with a standard 1-5/8″ step. What makes them special is that they do not flange or waterfall over the face of the beam. In fact they set down into the beam and set flush with the top of the beam. The fact that they set down into the step of the beam, set flush with the top of the beam and do not waterfall over the top or face of the beam make them perfect for adding under wire decking.
