Our standard rigid wire containers can be retrofit with steel fork runners. Steel fork runners have many advantages. The primary advantage is that they evenly distribute the weight of the baskets along the entire length of the skid bar. Why is that an advantage you may ask? The steel fork runners are flush to the floor and therefore distribute the weight of the basket along the length of the runner and prevents point loading.
Rigid wire containers with fork runners allow you to store your wire containers in pallet rack safely and without destroying the decking. Point loading where the entire weight of the basket comes down on the feet can destroy pallet rack decking and cause dangerous deck failure where the basket falls from the rack onto the floor. Fork runners distribute the weight evenly over the deck crossing over channel supports and pallet rack beams (as shown in picture gallery).
Rigid wire baskets with steel runners are commonly used when you are storing lots of weight in your basket. The runners gives extra strength to the base which offers extra capacity and damage resistance. You will find that rigid wire containers with steel runners will sustain less forklift damage. The runners also act as a fork stirrup which secures the baskets to the forks of your lift truck. Fork runners also don’t affect stackability. These rigid wire containers can be safely stacked up to 5 high.
A question that we are often asked is can you pick up a rigid wire container with steel fork runners with a pallet jack? The answer is yes. The wheels of a pallet truck will roll right over the flat steel runners. This gives you the flexibility of handling them with either a pallet jack of fork lift.
TIP FROM THE PRO’S: PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT OUR SOLID CORRUGATED STEEL CONTAINERS ARE LESS EXPENSIVE THAN OUR RIGID WIRE CONTAINERS – AND OFFERED IN THE SAME SIZES. IF YOU CAN TOLERATE SOLID SIDES AND BASE PANEL YOU CAN SAVE MONEY BY SWITCHING TO A CORRUGATED STEEL CONTAINER.
