Column protectors are a barrier that you put in front of your pallet rack upright frames to guard against forklift damage. There are two different styles, the floor anchored column protector and the bolt-on column protector. Although the floor anchored post protector is more common the bolt-on post protector is coming on strong.

The floor mounted post protector is anchored to the floor with 3/4″ x 4-1/4″ anchors. Typically 4 anchors per column protector. But many customers have the installer only use 2 anchors per column protector which often suffices. Although 4 anchors secure the column protector to the floor more solidly but also leaves more holes in your concrete floor.

Bolt on post protectors are exactly what they sound like. They bolt onto the upright column and do not need to be anchored to the floor. That saves you from having to drill additional holes in your concrete floor. The bolt-on style column protector has a V-shaped front that acts as a deflector. It deflects the forks of a forklift preventing damage.

A seasoned warehouse manager knows that an initial investment in upright column protection will pay off many times over in reduced rack damage. Consider this, if you damage and upright frame with a forklift you will have to incur the cost of replacement upright, freight cost of replacement upright, disassembly cost of damaged upright and reinstallation cost of replacement upright – which can easily exceed $1000.00 for a single upright.

  • TIP FROM THE PRO’S: When trying to determine what size column protector to purchase you should ask your self where you are getting the most damage. If you are getting damage to the lower 12″ of your upright frame than go with a 12″ tall floor anchored column protector. The shorter they are the more impact resistant they are. If they are too tall and get hit at the top they will pop the anchors more easily. The 12″ floor anchored post protector is by far our most popular seller but the bolt on post protector is coming on strong.

TIP FROM THE PRO’S 2: The 4″ V-Nose column protector is only recommended if you have a stand up forklift with outriggers. Some don’t like the V-Nose because it only has 1 anchor and it get’s hit it spins around. To address that problem we have the 4″ V-Nose Pro with 2 anchors but it is more expensive.

TIP FROM THE PRO’S 3: The very best column protector we sell is the rubber Ram-Guard. It’s considered the Cadillac of column protectors. It’s also the most expensive.
