SPECIAL NOTES: FOB: Los Angeles and Chicago. Punched steel decking has a flush fit design that fits into standard 1-5/8″ step beams. You’ll need (4) – 24″ wide pieces on a 96″ beam level and (6) – 24″ wide pieces to fit on a 144″ beam level. In order to deck a 108″ beam level you will need a combination of (2) – 24″ wide and (2) 30″ wide pieces on a standard 108″ beam level. **All stock material is currently being built for a 1.75” top of beam. For a 1.625” top of beam, we recommend a ¼” deeper deck (16-18 week lead-time). We are able to store approximately 140 PCS one a pallet.
If you need steel pallet rack decking that meets NFPA and Fire Code Regulations then we have you covered with ProDeck50. There are many descriptive terms for our PRODECK 50 open steel pallet rack decking: flat, smooth, perforated, punched, slotted, 50% open, but what they all have in common is that they let the water from the overhead sprinklers flow through the rack decking and immerse the products in case of a fire.
Many municipalities across the country are now requiring that pallet rack decking not be solid but open to allow for sufficient flue space, air flow, sprinkler coverage and drainage. If you are building a new warehouse I’m sure that you are already in contact with the local building officials, specifically the building inspectors at the planning and zoning department of your local City Hall. You will also be in contact with the local Fire Marshall and your insurance company.
Your steel pallet racks and decking will most assuredly be required to satisfy NFPA and fire code regulations. Specifically the NFPA 231C standard for rack storage of materials. It speaks about the importance of fire sprinklers when storing flammable products in pallet storage racks and how in order for overhead sprinklers to have maximum effectiveness you must have 50% or greater opening in your decking.
Our OpenDeck50 steel pallet rack decking is unique in that it not only has holes but also is smooth to the touch so that products stored on the shelf will not catch on a sharp edge. This decking will not damage products stored on your shelf. You can easily slide product on and off the shelf with no catches. It is ideal for storing furniture, mattresses and boxed products.
NOTE: WE SUGGEST YOU SPEAK TO YOUR LOCAL BULDING INSPECTOR, FIRE MARSHALL AND INSURANCE COMPANY TO DETERMINE WHAT IS REQUIRED. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT YOU SPEAK WITH A LOCAL PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR RACKS MEET LOCAL SEISMIC REQUIREMENTS.
TIP FROM THE PRO’S: In order to deck a 96″ beam level you will need (4) – 24″ wide pieces. You’ll need a combination of (2) – 24″ wide and (2) – 30″ wide pieces on a standard 108″ beam level. And a 144″ wide beam level requires (6) – 24″ wide pieces.
