Corrugated steel bulk storage containers with fork stirrups are used for safety. They secure the container to the forks to prevent it from slipping and falling while being lifted or transported by a forklift. Are they recommended of standard usage of corrugated steel containers? No. In fact most people don’t add fork stirrups to their corrugated steel containers. Steel container can be lifted, stacked and transported just fine without fork stirrups.
Fork stirrups are really recommended on corrugated steel bins if you are in construction and you are transporting containers on rough rocky terrain. Corrugated steel container fork stirrups are also used when rotating or dumping contents from a steel container. Many recycling centers will add fork guides, fork tubes or fork tunnels to their steel bins to aid dumping of scrap.
Fork Stirrups are offered in a set of four, two pairs welded to opposite sides of the container. The fork stirrups, also known as fork guides or fork straps are 3/8″ thick and 2″ wide flat bar fork stirrups with 3″ x 6″ fork openings for 2 way entry. They are welded on the widest side of the container by default.
Center to center spacing as follows per widest side of the container (+/- .5″): 8.5″ for 24″ wide container, 12″ for 30″ wide container, 19.75″ for 35″ wide container, 24″ for 42″ wide container and 24″ for 48″ wide container. You may have to adjust the forks on your forklift to fit fork stirrups on container.
TIP FROM THE PRO’S: By default we add the fork stirrups to the long side of the container or the fork entry side. Let us know if you prefer them on the short side. Fork stirrups are always provided in two pairs installed on opposite sides of the container. This is called 2 way fork stirrups. We can also provide 4 way fork stirrups or fork stirrup in all four directions which would allow you to securely pick up the container from all for sides, just let us know what you want.
