Steel pipe safety bollards are commonly used in manufacturing facilities, warehouses and distribution centers for the safety and security of pallet rack, machinery, in plant offices, electrical boxes and other utilities, loading docks and overhead drive in doors.
Loading docks require extra protection. Trucks and trailers back up to the loading dock to have materials loaded and unloaded. But if the trailer is not aligned properly it can cause severe damage to your exterior of your building. Bollards help the truckdriver establish spatial recognition and awareness making it easier for the driver to safely align the truck.
For a standard, 8′ wide loading dock overhead door, the bollards are installed 6″-12″ from each side of the door (or 9′-10′ apart) and 1-1/2′ – 2-1/2′ away from the building. For a standard 12′ overhead drive in door they should be installed 6″-12″ from each side of the door (or 12′-13′ apart). Spacing of bollards is really at the discretion of warehouse manager.
