Double flanged pallet support crossbars are overtaking wire mesh decks as our hottest selling pallet racking accessory. The reason is that they are more cost effective than wire decking. Pallet supports are approximately 1/3 the cost of wire decks but keep in mind that you must put 2 pallet supports compared to just 1 wire deck under each pallet. Both pallet rack cross bars and wire decks support pallet loads BUT you must take something into consideration. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. 1. Am I stocking full pallet loads? If so pallet supports will work great and will save you lots of money over wire decking.
  2. 2. Do my pallet loads consist of small loose boxes that are not tightly banded or stretch wrapped? If so wire decking may be a better solution because wire mesh decks help prevent fall though of small boxes that may fall off your pallet.
  3. 3. Do you want the flexibility of storing boxes without pallets on your shelves? If so wire mesh decks may be a better solution.

Wow. I’ve done a great job of dissuading you from buying pallet supports – lol. That was not my intention. BUT if you are in the sweet spot of storing nothing but tightly packed and secure pallet loads in your rack than pallet rack cross bars is the most cost effective solution. The advantage of wire decking over cross bars is that the mesh prevents items from falling off the pallet onto the floor but if your pallet loads are shrink wrapped wire decking is not necessary.

Pallet supports will save you lots of money over wire decking because they are less expensive to ship. You can save hundreds if not thousands of dollars in freight cost (depending on the size of the job) due to the fact that you can fit more into a truckload. For example you can fit 1000 pieces of 42″ double flanged pallet supports on two pallet loads. Try going that with wire decking. 1000 wire decks requires almost a full truckload. If you want a delivered price we can fit approximately 11,000 crossbars in a direct container load.

The reason why our pallet supports are less expensive than the competitors is by design. Other manufacturers of pallet support cross bars use a 3″ wide bar that is shaped like an upside down U. We are able to manufacture a crossbar with equal or great strength and capacity using a 2″ wide bar with the corners rolled for greater strength and more cost savings.

For decades the number one driver in our pallet supports line was our “Double Flanged Pallet Supports“. The flanged ends wrapped over the beam face and kept the beams from bowing. The flange has a hole in it that allows you to run a tek screw securing the support to the beam. But with the advent of “Amazon effect” where companies are picking, packing and shipping their products direct from the warehouse we are selling about 50/50 the amount of “Hat Style Pallet Supports” as double flanged pallet supports. The reason is that more companies are wanting a clear beam / shelf face so that they can attach labels identifying stock picking locations.

We offer many different styles of pallet support cross bars with one likely to meet you needs. For instance if you have structural pallet rack with c-channel beams that don’t have a step we got you covered. Introducing our “structural pallet supports” that have a large flange or cup on the end designed to set down on the crown of a structural c-channel beam.

Lastly I want to tell you about out “Roll-in Pallet supports” that are designed for Interlake beams that are notched. These cross bars just snap into place which greatly reduces install cost. But you must have Interlake pallet rack with notched beams for these to work.
