Adding flat steel angle runners to collapsible wire containers is an essential upgrade when storing these containers on pallet rack decking. Rackable wire baskets must have steel runners to evenly distribute the weight across the shelf, preventing dangerous point loads that could damage the decking or cause safety hazards. Without these runners, the concentrated weight of the baskets’ feet could create pressure points that compromise the structural integrity of the racking system. By incorporating steel runners, businesses can ensure safer, more reliable storage of their collapsible wire containers.
Flat steel runners are a custom feature that adds a 10-12 week lead time, but the benefits they provide make them a worthwhile investment. These runners can be added to two sides (2-way) or all four sides (4-way) of the container, depending on the specific storage requirements. Two-way runners must be positioned so they cross the wire decking channel supports, ensuring maximum stability and load distribution. This design ensures that the container is properly supported and does not place excessive weight in one concentrated area of the decking.
For greater flexibility in storage orientation, four-way runners can be installed on all sides of the wire container. This configuration allows the baskets to be stored in any direction on the shelf without concern for aligning them with the wire decking supports. The ability to position containers in multiple orientations provides operational efficiency, making it easier to organize and retrieve stored goods. This feature is particularly valuable in dynamic warehouse environments where storage configurations may frequently change.
Rackable wire pallets, which are specifically designed for high-bay pallet rack storage, further enhance warehouse efficiency. By storing pallets in pallet racks, businesses gain greater selectivity, allowing forklifts to retrieve any pallet at any time directly from the aisle. This selective storage method reduces the need to move multiple pallets to access a specific item, improving productivity and reducing handling time. In high-density storage environments, the ability to access inventory quickly can significantly enhance operational workflow.
One of the biggest advantages of adding flat steel runners is that they allow the wire baskets to be picked up using a pallet jack. Unlike standard wire container feet, which can get caught or create uneven weight distribution, flat steel runners provide a smooth surface that enables the wheels of the pallet jack to roll over them with ease. This added accessibility makes it easier to transport containers around the facility, increasing versatility and reducing reliance on forklifts for every movement. Investing in flat steel runners ensures that collapsible wire containers remain safe, stable, and easy to handle within any warehouse or distribution center.
