Corrugated steel bulk storage containers with steel angle runners are used when storing containers on the decking of a pallet rack system or when conveying the containers on roller conveyor or flow rack systems. The 2-way steel angle runners are typically added on two opposite sides which leaves the other sides open for forking.

The advantage of corrugated steel containers with steel angle runners is that it distributes the load weight over the length of the runners which prevents point loading. Point loading is where the entire weight of the container and its contents come down on a small point (the size of the feet of the container).

When and why is distributing the load weight an advantage? When your storing your steel bins on the decking of a pallet rack system and you don’t have steel runners distributing the weight then the feet of the container will destroy the steel or wire decking. Most pallet rack decking, including wire decking and corrugated decking cannot handle point loads. Only properly spec’d bar grate decking can handle point loads but that is very expensive.

Image this, the entire weight of the container comes down on 2″ x 2″ points of the feet onto the pallet rack decking causing the decking to fail and the container comes falling off the rack onto the floor. That won’t happen if your runners are 48″ long and the container is setting down onto a 42″ deep rack system or the angle runners are crossing the channel supports of your wire decking.

Corrugated steel bins with angle runners are also ideal for flowing containers on roller conveyors. This will allow you to convey your containers on flow rack systems which will increase handling efficiency in your warehouse. As you can image, a container with 4 pointed feet will not flow on conveyor the way that a container with flat steel runner will flow.

Another advantage to adding angle runners to your rigid metal bins is when you are storing them out in the yard on black top pavement. As you know the summer heat will make the blacktop soft and the pointed feet of your container will leave indentations and eventually tear up your blacktop surface. The flat steel angle runners on the bottom of the container will offer more surface area and prevent damage to blacktop surfaces.

The container comes with a set of two angle runners which are stronger and more rigid than flat steel runners. The runners help prevent damage to the feet of the container. The feet are the most susceptible part of the container to damage. The angle runners are welded to the narrowest side of the container by default. No fork truck access on angle runner side. No pallet jack access on steel angle runner side.

*NOTE FROM THE PRO’S: PLEASE NOTE THAT BY ADDING 2-WAY STEEL ANGLE RUNNERS YOU ARE ONLY ABLE TO FORK THE CONTAINER FROM 2 SIDES. IF CONTAINER MUST BE FORKED FROM ALL 4-SIDES THAN YOU MUST REQUEST A CORRUGATED STEEL CONTAINER WITH SKID BARS. BUT PLEASE REMEMBER THAT SKID BAR RUNNERS ARE ABOUT $10.00-$15.00 MORE EXPENSIVE THAN STEEL ANGLE RUNNERS OFFERED ON THIS PAGE. SO, IF YOU ARE SHOPPING STRICTLY PRICE THAN STEEL ANGLE RUNNERS OFFERED ON THIS PAGE IS THE WAY TO GO.
