What makes a drive through racking system unique? It can be accessed from both sides. There is no back braces preventing you from driving all the way through the system!
Drive-Thru Racking requires aisles on both sides of the rack system, drive thru rack creates what we call an island of rack. Drive through racking systems are accessible from two sides. Drive-thru racks allow the lift truck operator to drive into the rack system unencumbered by back bracing and exit from the other side of the rack system. To achieve this the uprights must extend over the top loads throughout and the entire system must be top tied which adds to the cost this high-density storage system.
Drive-through racking isn’t as popular as drive-in rack systems. We suggest putting drive-in rack back-to-back with drive in rack to allow accessibility from both sides of the system. Unless you need complete access from front to back of both sides of system you can get by with drive in rack. Drive thru rack requires additional top ties and bracing.
Drive through racking systems offer you highest density (low efficiency) pallet storage. It is also the most affordable high density pallet rack system available. Drive-thru rack is ideal for storage of multiple pallet positions of the same SKU. You must dedicate every pallet in the bay to the same SKU. Drive in rack systems help you prevent product damage associated with bulk stacking.
