We added pallet racks with coil cradles for storing Steel Coils that we warehouse and process in our slitting facility. The Coils we store are in the range of 8,000-16,000 lbs., 40 -60 inches wide, and 35-50 inch OD max. We release these coils randomly (typically FIFO) so access to all the coils via racks rather than stacking is very beneficial.
We appreciate the versatility to also store our finished ready to be shipped material (which is on skids) on the same racks. These are typically 40, 48, or 60 inches and approx. 8-12,000 lbs. The greatest advantage we discovered from coil racks is the increased storage density and efficiency we have achieved. These racks have certainly cleared up a lot of floor space and helped us better organize our coils.”
